1957 Topps Yogi Berra Card - Yankee Stadium Painting
This 1957 Topps Yogi Berra card has a surprise on the back - an original painting of Old Yankee Stadium. Artist Michael Koser always leaves a little bit of the original card visible through the painting, so you will notice "Berra" above and to the left of the scoreboard and "New York Yankees" to the right of that. This item is 1 of 1.Ā
I think it's fair to say there has never been a more colorful character in baseball history than Lawrence "Yogi" Berra!
"Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical"
"When you come to a fork in the road, take it."
"Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded."
Yogi spent all 19 years of his storied career with the New York Yankees. He was an 18x All-Star, 13x World Series Champion (Yes! 13!!!!) and 3x AL MVP. Berra was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1972.
āTalking to Yogi Berra about baseball, is like talking to Homer about the gods.āĀ āĀ
Ā
Yankee Stadium opened in 1923 and was widely considered one of the most iconic ballparks in baseball history. It remained in this particular configuration (the one seen in the painting) until the 1974/1975 renovation. It was demolished in 2009.
"When I first came to Yankee Stadium I used to feel like the ghosts of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig were walking around in there."Ā - Mickey Mantle

This card is ungraded.
Note: The artist only paints on backs of cards that show their age. This card has not spent its life in a climate controlled environment or behind a piece of glass. It shows its 63 years, but that's why we love it. It's been held, loved and traded and I'm sure has plenty of stories to tell!Ā There are tiny spots on the front and worn edges and corners.Ā
