1964 St. Louis Cardinals Team Card - Busch Stadium (Sportsman's Park) Painting

This 1964 Topps St. Louis Cardinals team card has a surprise on the back...an original Lost Ballpark painting of Busch Stadium (formerly known as Sportsman's Park) from artist Michael Koser. This item is 1 of 1. 

Though it says 1963 on the back, this is the 1964 Topps St. Louis Cardinals team card. 1964 was a magical year for Bob Gibson, Ken Boyer and Lou Brock! Which is a little surprising considering it was their first year without Stan Musial who had retired at the end of '63! The Cardinals finished the season 1 game ahead of the Reds to take the NL Pennant and then went on to beat the Yankees in 7 to claim their 7th World Championship.

As for Sportsman's Park, which became known as Busch Stadium (I) in 1953, think about this for a second, the Cardinals won 7 World Series Championships in that ballpark on North Grand Blvd!

After the final game was played at Busch Stadium (I) in 1966, Stan Musial, who had retired 3 years earlier, said, "They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but this old diamond has been pretty good to us."

It sure was!
